Exercise Blue Ham Setup

less than 1 minute read

Matt 2E0FNT and I have have set up the club station with a 60m flat NVIS dipole at 5.8m height above ground, engineered by Chaz. We learned from last time to set up beforehand - this time we had to troubleshoot a dreadful SWR that turned out to be a failed solder joint in the balun.

SWR of antenna

We were able to get a S58 signal to Hack Green near Manchester using 5W. We tried before and after setting up the reflector near the ground, but were unable to determine any significant difference within the bounds of natural variations in propagation.

Weather alert

This was the best day to rig the antenna - weather for the weekend looks okay, though we need to keep an eye on the wind between Saturday and Sunday
